  • Shaker4x4: All yuk. Been there done that, and done with cabinets. Whilst cabinets might be ok for adults only in the home they they own, and not need to periodically move it, the are impractical for those that require a bit of mobility to their home theater without repeating the tear down, and setup procedure, and annoying cabinets that make it difficult to access the rear of equipment, and often difficult cable management. I'm currently working on a heavy duty TV stand on lockable wheels, with a 15RU server cabinet mounted the the frame, and all quick release Neutrik connectors. Even the subs will go on wheels, but not tower speakers. Surround speakers go on folding tripodsand center speaker on the TV stand's single shelf below the TV. Most TV stands on the market are not heavy duty enough to achieve this setup, so you have to find one. This will give you a professional, commercial, look, whilst being child proof, and semi-mobile for cleaning, or moving house, without the time consuming teardowns, and setups. Equipment is dust filtered, well ventilated, and secure. Cables are managed permanantly. Power conditioning, can be a rack mount unit, additional rack amplifiers can be added. Tempered glass front door.

    I'll lrobably upload a video one day when I'm done, but this is what I envisage, and already have the bases to build upon. But over the cabinet saga. I prefer the commercial look over nice, or fancy designs, and veneers that sometimes are absolute rubbish. Solid timbers, with metal frames for strength, and fancy add-ons aren't practical for our family. I like the open back shelf cabinets, but again, we can't make use if them, and they are cumbersome in the long-run.
